The Salta packages already cover the city, Salinas Grandes with Purmamarca and Cafayate. These are the days we add when you extend your stay: three on the road into the mountains, and one night in the city with the guitars. All of them run with an English-speaking guide, regular or private.
Each of these is a full day, or a full night, from your hotel in Salta. The three mountain days go in different directions and climb above three thousand metres; the peñas stay in the city and end late.

North into Jujuy: Purmamarca and the Hill of Seven Colours, the painted hills of Maimará, the Pucará de Tilcara, the chapel at Uquía and the town of Humahuaca at about 2,950 metres.

West over the mountains: the hairpins of the Cuesta del Obispo, the Inca road across Los Cardones National Park, and the white colonial village of Cachi under its snow-covered peak.

Beyond Humahuaca, where the asphalt ends: over the Abra del Cóndor at 4,180 metres and down into a gorge to a village of stone streets on a ledge above the river.

Five folk music houses in one night, from the Boliche Balderrama to a late guitar session, with a dance lesson, empanadas and wine, and dinner.
More about this day ›These are days we add to your Salta package rather than stand-alone tickets: we arrange them together with your flights, your hotel and your transfers. When you write, we send you the detail of each day for your dates.
Each of them runs as a regular service or as a private one, with the vehicle and the guide for your group alone. Tell us when you write and we quote it either way. The guide is English-speaking in both versions.
The Quebrada de Humahuaca, for most travellers: it is the UNESCO valley, the coloured mountains and the villages, and it is the day people come to the north-west for. Cachi is the choice for travellers who have seen the Quebrada already or want fewer people; Iruya is for those who want to go as far as the road goes.
The Salta & Jujuy package covers the city, Salinas Grandes with Purmamarca and Cafayate. Humahuaca shares only Purmamarca with the Salinas day and goes the other way at the junction; Cachi and Iruya are new country altogether. The peñas fit any evening you are in the city, Wednesday to Sunday.
Humahuaca reaches about 2,950 metres, the Cachi road 3,348 and the Iruya road 4,180. Most people feel no more than a headache or breathlessness; drink water, eat lightly, and tell your guide if you feel unwell. We put the lower days first in your itinerary so you are used to the height by the time you do the high ones.
One night per day tour, plus the peñas on any evening. Two extra nights give you Humahuaca and Cachi; three add Iruya. Fewer than that and we would rather you did one day well than two in a hurry.
The standard four days in Salta give you the city and the two big days, Salinas Grandes with Purmamarca and Cafayate. They are the right two if you have to choose, and most travellers do. But the north-west is bigger than that, and the roads out of Salta go in four different directions.
With one more night you get the Quebrada de Humahuaca properly, village by village, instead of only Purmamarca on the way to the salt flats. With two, Cachi and the Cuesta del Obispo, which is the road the people of Salta themselves take visitors on. Iruya is for the third extra night and for travellers who like the end of the road. And the peñas cost no extra night at all: they are what you do with an evening in Salta, and the reason the city is famous for its music. Tell us your dates and how many days you have, and we lay the days out in the right order, the low ones first.
Send us your dates, how many of you are travelling and the days you would like to add. We come back within 24 hours with your Salta trip laid out, these days included where they fit.
The days above are arranged as part of one of these, with your flights or bus, your hotel and your transfers already handled.
