Uruguay is the country on the other side of the river: an hour to Colonia, two to Montevideo, and an afternoon's drive to the beaches of Punta del Este. Small enough to see in four days, different enough to be worth it, and the only foreign country you can visit from Buenos Aires for lunch. These are the trips we arrange there, from a day to a long weekend.
Ferry, hotel, transfers and the days you choose, quoted as one price. This is how 01Argentina works: we do not sell loose tickets, we build the whole trip and stand behind it.

The ferry to Montevideo, a full day in Colonia del Sacramento, a full day on the coast to Punta del Este with Casapueblo, and the city tour of the capital, with three nights.

More ›By fast ferry across the Rio de la Plata, from the port of Buenos Aires: about an hour to Colonia del Sacramento and a little over two hours direct to Montevideo. Punta del Este is reached by road from Montevideo, about two hours along the coast. We include the ferry tickets in every trip on this page; you only need your passport.
One day is enough for Colonia or for a first look at Montevideo. Four days with three nights in Montevideo is the trip that covers the three cities properly, with a full day each for Colonia and Punta del Este. More than that and you add a night in Colonia or on the beach at Punta del Este, or extras in the capital.
Colonia is closer, smaller and slower: cobbled streets, a lighthouse, the river, lunch. Montevideo is a capital with an old town, a long promenade and beaches, and a longer crossing. History and a quiet day, Colonia; a city, Montevideo. Many travellers with two spare days in Buenos Aires do both.
October to April for Punta del Este and the beaches, with January and February the busiest and most expensive weeks. Colonia and Montevideo are good all year: spring and autumn are the most pleasant, and winter is cool, clear and uncrowded.
Most nationalities enter Uruguay without a visa for tourism, with a valid passport; the rules change and depend on where you are from, so tell us your nationality when you write and we tell you what we know before you travel.
Easily: every trip here starts and ends at the port of Buenos Aires, so Uruguay slots into any Argentina itinerary as a day, a weekend or four days between Buenos Aires and your next flight. Tell us your whole route and we fit it in.
Write to us with your dates, how many of you are travelling and which of the trips above you have in mind. We come back within 24 hours with a proposal written for you, ferry times confirmed and everything priced as one figure. Nothing is booked until you are happy with it.
The Rio de la Plata is so wide at Buenos Aires that the far bank is invisible, and most visitors never think of it as a border. It is one, and the country on the other side is worth the crossing: Uruguay is quieter, greener and more relaxed than its big neighbour, with a Portuguese colonial town, a capital built along twenty kilometres of waterfront and the most famous beach resort in South America, all within a few hours of each other.
Colonia del Sacramento is the day trip everyone does and nobody regrets: founded by the Portuguese in 1680 and UNESCO-listed, an hour away by ferry. Montevideo is a capital for walking, from the Mercado del Puerto to the Rambla. Punta del Este is the Atlantic, with Casapueblo on the cliff on the way. The four-day tour takes in all three; the day trips take one.
Tell us your dates and how many of you are travelling and we arrange the ferry, the hotel, the transfers and the guided days, quoted as one figure. We have been arranging trips to Uruguay and across Argentina since 2005, and one person handles yours from the first email to the last day.
Free quotation within 24 hours, with no obligation. Tell us your dates, how many of you are travelling and whether you have a day, a weekend or four, and we come back with the trip laid out and everything priced together.
