Optional Tours in Montevideo

The Uruguay packages cover the ferry, the hotel, the city tour of Montevideo and the days in Colonia and Punta del Este. These are the extras we add when you have a free morning, afternoon or evening in the capital: the city by electric bike, the stadium where the World Cup began, and the night Montevideo sounds like itself.

Three ways to use free time in Montevideo

Each one takes part of a day from your hotel in Montevideo and fits around the days already in your package. All run with an English-speaking guide, regular or private.

Questions

What travellers ask us before choosing their Montevideo extras

Can I book one of these Montevideo tours on its own?

These are extras we add to your Uruguay trip rather than stand-alone tickets: we arrange them together with your ferry or flights, your hotel and your transfers. When you write, we send you the detail of each one for your dates.

Are the Montevideo optional tours private?

Each runs as a regular service or as a private one for your party alone. Tell us when you write and we quote it either way. The guide is English-speaking in both versions; inside the stadium and at the show you share the room with other visitors, as anyone does.

Which one should we choose if we only have one free half-day in Montevideo?

The electric bike if it is a morning: it is the fastest way to see the whole city and decide where to go back on foot. The stadium if it is a Thursday, Friday or Saturday afternoon. And El Milongon needs no free day at all: it is what you do with an evening.

How do these fit with the four-day Uruguay package?

The package arrives in Montevideo on day one with a free afternoon, spends days two and three in Colonia and Punta del Este, and ends with the city tour and the evening ferry on day four. El Milongon fits any of the first three nights; the stadium fits the free first afternoon on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday; the bike tour needs a fifth morning or a longer stay.

Is the Montevideo bike tour hard?

No. The city is flat, the bike is electric and the pace is set by the slowest rider; you need to know how to ride a bicycle and be 16 or older, nothing more.

Do we need to speak Spanish for the show at El Milongón?

No. It is music and dance, and the words are few; the guide on the transfer explains the programme in English on the way there.

How to use your time in Montevideo

Montevideo is the quietest capital in South America and the one travellers most often give too little time to. The city tour in the package shows you the main avenues and the Rambla from a vehicle; the extras here are how you get off it and into the city.

A morning on an electric bike covers more of Montevideo than a day on foot, and leaves you knowing where you want to return. The Gran Parque Central is a piece of world football history that happens to be a short drive from the centre, with a restaurant above the pitch for lunch. And El Milongon is the night out: tango like Buenos Aires, and candombe like nowhere else. Tell us your dates and how many of you are travelling, and we fit the extras around the days you already have.

Tell us which of these caught your eye

Send us your dates, how many of you are travelling and the extras you would like to add. We come back within 24 hours with your Uruguay trip laid out, these included where they fit.
