Tourist and useful information about trekking in the Perito Moreno Glacier

The minitrekking to the Perito Moreno Glacier has already become a classic activity in El Calafate and 01Argentina Travel Agency invites you to discover this famous ice mole, with lots of excitement, adventure and little risk. The Perito Moreno glacier has several reasons to support its fame: it is the only one in the Patagonian glacier basin that is not in recession, but remains in balance. This means that its ice mass maintains a stable accumulation and recoil relationship and for our privilege, it is one of the few glacial formations in the world that originate just 1500 meters above sea level, and that descends to 200, which makes enviable access and observation possible.

Suggestions for Minitrekking:

Level of difficulty: Medium.

Limitations: This excursion, due to the degree of effort and difficulty it presents, is only suitable for people between 10 and 65 years.
Overweight people; pregnant women; Persons with any degree or type of physical or mental disability that affects their care, walking and / or coordination; People who suffer from central or peripheral cardiovascular disease, their cardiac or vascular capacities are impaired, or use stents, pacemakers or other prostheses should NOT participate.

Tourist information about the 4 × 4 tour Balcones del Calafate

Lanscapes, Nature and emotion

We leave from the hotels in El Calafate to complete a route of approximately 35 kilometers on the line of hills behind the village. The footprint leads us through landscapes of steppe reaching heights up to 1050 meters above sea level, where we marvel at the variety in tall vegetation. Our first stop is in a natural viewpoint where passengers enjoy a panoramic view of El Calafate and the central body of Lake Argentino.

The route will offer views of the Andes Mountains and the glacier accumulation zone, towards the Boca del Diablo (narrowest part of the lake, towards the Upsala arm) and, if it is clear, we will see Fitz Roy and Torre In El Chaltén and we can contemplate the flight of the condors.
Continuing our ascent, we reach the labyrinth of stones that is a Cretaceous period formation dating back to 85 million years old, once bed of river where today we can find fossil remains that refer us to that past; From there we started down the north slope of the hill and we arrived at the stone of the Hats, curious concretions of iron that are only in four places around the world.
We return to El Calafate descending without losing sight of the imposing Lake Argentino.
A personal experience given by guides-drivers, experienced in a complex site. The guided tour offers explanations from the geological formations to the characteristics of the steppe and the history of the place.
With two options of activity with lunch or with snack.
What to bring? Sun glasses, sun cream, comfortable and warm clothing, waterproof jacket and gloves.
Difficulty: it does not have. Suitable for all ages.

Useful information for El Chalten:
It is essential to have footwear suitable for long walks in uneven road (the ideal are light trekking boots).
Do not forget to bring drinking water, even when you can find it on the way, for sections where there is not. It is essential to incorporate fluid during the walks, to avoid the risk of dehydration.
It is advisable to bring food as for a lunch and something else, since the days are usually to leave, due to the many light hours that allow to enjoy the place.
It is essential to have glasses for the sun, even when the day is cloudy, as the reflection on the glaciers is very detrimental to the view.
Wear several layers of clothing, so you can be comfortable whether it's cold or hot. Keep in mind that in this zone important thermal amplitudes occur, and the climate can vary radically in a few hours.
We recommend using sunscreen for the same reason as sunglasses.
