The experience

A cosmopolitan city that turns into a river wilderness

One of the most original ways to experience Buenos Aires: watching the skyline of a huge capital dissolve into an immense natural delta — all from the deck of a boat.

On the water

Buenos Aires from a completely different angle

The cruise starts in Puerto Madero, the city's smartest riverside district, and heads out onto the Río de la Plata — the widest river in the world. From the deck you get a view of Buenos Aires that almost no visitor sees: the skyline, the port and the ecological reserve, all from the water.

As you sail north, the city gradually gives way to something completely different. It's an original, unhurried experience — good for all ages, and genuinely romantic for couples.

The Delta

Into the channels of the Paraná

Then comes the best part: the boat enters the Paraná Delta, an immense labyrinth of rivers, streams and islands where a whole community lives on the water, reachable only by boat.

You pass wooden houses on stilts, private jetties, old rowing clubs and thick subtropical vegetation. It's a way of life that feels a world away from the capital, even though it starts just a few kilometres from it.

Riverside promenade and parkland at Tigre, Buenos Aires

Tigre grew up as the weekend retreat of Buenos Aires — and it still feels like one.

Tigre

A stop at Paseo Victorica

The tour also takes in Tigre and its riverside promenade, the Paseo Victorica. This is where the grand old rowing clubs line the water — ornate timber-framed clubhouses with towers and boat ramps, built when Tigre was the summer playground of Buenos Aires society and rowing was the sport of the elite.

Many are still working clubs today. It is the most photogenic stretch of the whole trip, and the perfect place to stretch your legs and have a coffee before the return.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How long does the cruise last?

The full experience lasts about 4 hours, including roughly 90 minutes on the Río de la Plata, an hour cruising the Delta channels and around an hour at Tigre's Paseo Victorica.

Where does it depart from?

The boat departs from Puerto Madero, the riverside district of Buenos Aires. We pick you up beforehand from your hotel (from our list of pick-up hotels) or from an agreed meeting point in the city.

What languages are the guides?

There are bilingual guides on board with commentary in English, Spanish and Portuguese.

Is lunch included?

No, lunch is not included. There's time at the Tigre stop for a coffee or a bite if you wish, and we can suggest where to eat. We can also quote the tour combined with lunch.

What's the difference between this and the classic Tigre Delta tour?

The classic Tigre Delta and San Isidro tour travels north by road through the suburbs and includes a shorter boat ride. This experience is the opposite: you spend most of the time on the water, sailing from Puerto Madero and reaching the Delta by river.

Is it suitable for children and older travelers?

Yes, it's a calm cruise suitable for all ages, and infant seats are available for the land transfer. It is not wheelchair accessible, so tell us in advance if anyone has reduced mobility and we'll suggest alternatives.

What should I bring?

Comfortable clothes, a light jacket (it can be breezy on the river), sunscreen, sunglasses and a camera. The boat is modern and comfortable inside, so it works in most weather.

Can I cancel if my plans change?

Yes. You get a full refund if you cancel at least 24 hours before the experience starts.

What is the Paraná Delta, exactly?

It's the vast delta where the Paraná River meets the Río de la Plata, just north of Buenos Aires — a maze of rivers, streams and thousands of islands with a resident community whose only access is by boat. Tigre is its main gateway town.

Sailing from Puerto Madero to the Tigre Delta

The most original way to reach the Tigre Delta

Almost everyone who visits the Tigre Delta gets there by road. This tour does it the other way round: by water, sailing out of Puerto Madero on the Río de la Plata — the widest river in the world — and entering the Delta through its own channels.

That change of perspective is what makes it special. You watch a cosmopolitan capital of millions gradually turn into an immense natural landscape of rivers and islands. Along the way you see the Buenos Aires skyline from the water, the stilt houses and rowing clubs of the Delta, and finally Tigre and its elegant riverside promenade, the Paseo Victorica.

The boat is modern and comfortable, with bilingual guides on board in English, Spanish and Portuguese, and the whole experience takes about four hours including hotel pick-up. It's original, relaxing and works for all ages — a favourite with couples, and an easy half day to slot into a Buenos Aires itinerary. Tell us your dates and we'll send you a free quote within 24 hours.
