The jury, in both categories, is composed of five members in the qualifying stages, six members and seven members semifinals in the final. Each member classified individually with a score of 1 to 10, and then an average that is the final grade is established. In each category a winning couple as well as the second and third positions were established. The prize for the winning pair was 40,000 pesos in 2013 (equivalent to US $ 8,000).
The skills developed in two categories: track and tango tango scene. The end of both procedures are performed last Saturday and Sunday of the festival, respectively. In the final 40 couples arrive in track mode tango and 20 pairs in the tango scene mode.

Tango track

The tango track mode is characterized by preserving the popular tango style not being allowed to break the embrace or jump. They dance in rounds of 10 couples, who do not choose music.
The tango track (formerly called tango salon) takes place in groups of 10 couples dancing simultaneously, without choosing the music. Couples should be placed in a circle and rotate counter-clockwise. The competition consists of four rounds in which three songs by round dance. At the final stage of the championship 40 couples arrive.
This method seeks to respect the essential characteristics of the tango dance and lays down stricter rules coregráficas tango scene mode:
• The embrace can not be broken while the music lasts, meaning that hug one of the dancers should always be “contained” by the embrace of another member, an elastic sense;
• jumps are prohibited;
• The dress is not taken as a parameter of qualification.
By regulation, the jury is required to qualify mainly taking “into account the musicality, the connection between the couple and the elegance of the walk.” In this mode the improvisation and the use of popular choreographic figures (cuts, broken, runs, swept, put on the floor, enrosques, etc.) is essential.

Tango scene

The tango scene mode is characterized by the free and acrobatic choreographic style, which includes not allowed moves in tango track, such as jumping and breaking the hug. It is individually dances to the music chosen by each couple.
The tango scene is developed with couples dancing alone and choose the music. Each dance four minutes. It is characterized by dramatic and choreographic deployment of each pair. In the final 20 couples arrive.
This mode, unlike the tango track, find the choreographic freedom and expression of multiple variations with which the tango dance is presented in the world, but without losing its identity:
• You may break the embrace but also warns that the regulation should have “rationale and (made) for the benefit of the filing”;
• jumps are permitted and use resources from other dances, but no more than a third of the time of filing;
• The choreography should include “classic tango figures: the eight, turns, long walks, volleys, hooks and “milonga embrace”
• The dress can be a point of evaluation.
