El Chaltén and Mount Fitz Roy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A few hours north of El Calafate lies El Chaltén, Argentina’s self-declared trekking capital, set beneath the dramatic granite spires of Mount Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre. Trails leave directly from the village, so you do not need a guide or a vehicle to reach spectacular viewpoints: the walk to Laguna de los Tres rewards you with the classic Fitz Roy panorama, while gentler paths lead to Laguna Capri and clear mountain rivers. The Patagonian travel season runs through the austral spring, summer and early autumn, roughly from October to April, when days are long and the trails are open.
