Walking among penguins, Punta Tombo makes the trip more choice for nature lovers.

The Punta Tombo Natural Protected Area is the largest continental reserve of Magellanic penguins (Magellanic Penguin) with an adult population of more than 400,000 copies.
It was created to preserve in order to ensure benefits for present and future generations.
The reserve consists of a trail of about 3 km. (Round trip), an interpretation center where they can better understand the life of the Magellanic penguin and other wildlife find that accompanies it.
The season where penguins are sighted covers the months from September to March.
How to get
Starting from Puerto Madryn southwards along National Route No. 3 and after traveling 112 km, passing through the town of Trelew, you get to the intersection with the RP Nº75, crossing this -21 km- access the No.1 RP-of gravel -. After 38 Km, you arrive at Punta Tombo Natural Protected Area. To access the area paid an entrance fee. A bar and sanitation.

The doradillo

From June to October

The Protected Area The Doradillo was created in 2001 under the management category V (IUCN): “LAND AND SEA PROTECTED” by the Municipal Ordinance No. 4263/01.
In 2003 the Management and Development Plan Protected Area Doradillo establishing strategies and actions needed to achieve the objectives of creating the area was developed.
It is located 15 km from the city of Puerto Madryn covering an area parallel to the coast 3 km wide, extending from Punta Arco to Cerro Prismatic along 25 km.
The main attraction is the coastal watching Southern Right Whale (Eubalaena australis) who flock there every year between the months of June to October to mate and nurse their young. The physiognomy of its coasts makes it more attractive and successful the whale, so that these enormous cetaceans can just few meters from the beach, taking into account the high tide schedules which are available at Tourist Information Centers.
In the observatory of “Punta Arrow” instead created by the Natural Patagonia Foundation, you may find information and interpret the life of these marine specimens.
The fauna is present through guanacos, maras, foxes, skunks and other species typical of the semi-desert ecosystem.
The characteristics of the area allow the development of other recreational activities as well as typical coastal environment (sun, beach, hiking, mountain biking) and nature photography and bird watching (birdwatching).

PUNTA LOMA

All the year

Punta Loma has a magnificent view, allowing spotting sea lions and birds from a cliff, throughout the year.

This area was established on September 29, 1967 by Provincial Law No. 697, one of the first reserves of wildlife conservation system in the province of Chubut.
Its main objectives are to preserve and protect nature in all its aspects and manifestations native and promote environmental awareness of visitors. Following the Almirante Brown Boulevard to the southeast, from the university, right, born enripiado access to the seal colony. It then accesses to travel 14 km and pay the entrance. In the book we find a set on a bluff overlooking the Golfo Nuevo viewpoint, from where you can observe the colony of sea lions (Otaria flavescens) and the colony of cormorants.
The place has a path where you can see and interpret the flora typical of the region. It is clear that this reserve can be visited throughout the year given the low tide times. Following the same gravel road, 3 km. to the south it will arrive at the Cerro Avanzado beach, which takes its name from the appearance of the place, fences sedimentary formation of millions of years old that retain among its strata fossil remains of oysters and marine vertebrates. Returning to Puerto Madryn by the same route, you can stop at various beaches offering the Gulf: Playa del Pozo, Paraná, Punta Este and Kaiser beach. This tour is ideal for those who practice mountain bike.

All the year

A place in the privileged world of nature, declared by UNESCO Natural Heritage Site in 1999.
Located on the northwest coast of the province of Chubut, it is the most important attraction of the Patagonian coast given the biological and geographical characteristics that make it up.
Whales, elephant seals and sea lions, Magellanic penguins, dolphins, killer whales, numerous species of terrestrial fauna, marine birds become the protagonists of the visit in a natural environment chosen by nature lovers.
